A Casualty.
In the silence of the night, it came-
A kiss that burned, and whispered my name.
We were two hearts, so effortlessly aligned,
Two souls entwined, no lines to define.
Laughter was our language, trust was our song,
I thought with you,id always belong.
The world spun around us, unaware,
That in that moment, I gave him all i could spare.
A spark ignited, then snuffed in the dark,
As if life were a flame, quickly lost- too stark.
But he pulled away, regret in your eyes,
As if the doing was a lie in disquise.
You said it was nothing, just a mistake
But i felt a world inside me break.
I loved him deeper than words could reach,
More than silence, more than speech.
But he, lost in the weight of regret,
Couldn't see the love i had set.
I gave him all that was left of me,
But he saw it as a mistake, a casualty.
His words cut deeper than knives could have done,
I loved him more than i could confess,
More than the stars, more than the mess
Of time and distance, of sorrow and fate,
But his heart had already shut the gate.
Im drowning in love, and you'll never see,
The way my heart breaks so quietly.
You'll never know how much i had hoped,
But now i stand, broken and alone, still coping.
For it was a moment, but my love was real,
And its something I'll carry, something I'll always feel.
You'll forget it, forget me, forget the flame,
While I'll love you always, but never the same.
